PCB tables after a mid-year patch
Tax-table updates in payroll suites often land in a staging company and never reach the live employer record.
LHDN updates PCB schedules on a calendar that does not care about your change-freeze. Vendors ship patches. The patch notes say the new table is included. In more than one suite we have tested, the table loaded into a template company, or into the test client, and the live employer continued to calculate on the previous schedule.
The control total on the PCB file still looks orderly. Under- or over-deduction shows up later in the EA draft, or in a staff complaint.
A practical check, which we run before we open anything else at year-end: pick five employees with unchanged pay, recompute PCB from the gazetted table for that month, and compare to the suite’s tax worksheet. If those five fail, stop the close and find which company record holds the live table.
This is unglamorous work. It is also the difference between a clean January and a reconstruction of twelve months of deductions.
