Overtime and exception-rule testing

Shift patterns, rounding, and rest-day logic are tested against clock data so premium pay is neither silently dropped nor inflated.

Best suited to manufacturers, logistics, and 24-hour operations in Selangor.

Packaged payroll suites store overtime as a set of rules that look tidy in a configuration workbook and behave differently once clock data, shift swaps, and public holidays arrive together.

We take a sample of timesheets — including night shift, split shift, and people who worked a rest day that was later substituted — and we recompute the premium the Employment Act and your collective agreement require. We then watch the suite’s calculation log, not only the payslip print.

Why this work is separate from a gross-to-net path

Exception rules are where rounding conventions hide. A suite that rounds each daily OT block down to the nearest fifteen minutes will underpay a large hourly workforce without ever failing a control total. We quantify that drift for the sample period and show payroll how to change the rule, or how to disclose it.

We also test whether unpaid breaks are deducted before or after the OT threshold, and whether on-call retainers are included in the ordinary rate of pay.
